Pilgrim United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming Church in The United Church of Christ. This means as our covenant adopted by a vote of the congregation of January 13, 2019 states:

Pilgrim United Church of Christ is a welcoming faith community, growing in love for God and neighbor, with Jesus as our model for how to live and love others. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, we believe you are a precious Child of God, regardless of ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender expression or socio-economic status, and we welcome you with open hearts and minds.

Open and Affirming (ONA) is an official designation of congregations and other settings in the United Church of Christ (UCC) affirming the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and non-binary persons (LGBTQ) in the church’s life and ministry. ONA covenants have been expanded to challenge congregations to make their faith communities accessible to all people. This covenant serves as a reminder that the work of justice is never finished, but evolving, as we continue to strive to offer a most extravagant and nonjudgmental welcome for all of God’s children. This covenant proclaims an authentic and clear message that reveals who we are and what we believe in. This covenant is a tool that will help us to reach others who need to hear the unique and powerful gospel of love we proclaim, and we may just play a small part is creating a more just world for all.
